For a mother, the birth of her children is one of the most wonderful times she will experience. While the new bundle of joy brings excitement and happiness to the family, many women are left with significant physical changes that can profoundly affect her self-confidence- these changes can include loss of breast fullness and sagging, unwelcome fatty deposits, loose skin, and stretch marks on the breast and abdomen.
A Mommy Makeover is a customized cosmetic procedure designed to reverse the physical changes caused by pregnancy. Are you ready to learn more about how a Mommy Makeover can improve your appearance? Request a consultation online or call the office at 817-731-5330. We serve patients in Fort Worth, TX and surrounding communities and we welcome patients who wish to travel from outside the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Benefits of a
Childbearing can result in lax abdominal skin with stretch marks and weakness of the abdominal muscles. This can cause the appearance of a lower abdominal pooch and a widened waist. Breast engorgement caused by pregnancy and subsequent breast-feeding can result in volume loss (particularly in the upper breast), stretch marks, and droop or sagging of the breasts. There may also be stubborn fat deposits in the waist, hips, and thighs. Diet and exercise may help with fat loss, but are not effective in tightening loose skin or improving the laxity of the abdominal muscles.
Because every woman is unique, Dr. Steele will take the time to listen to your needs and goals and will work with you to design a combination of procedures to give you the optimal outcome.
The following procedures are often combined in a Mommy Makeover procedure:
Designed to improve abdominal contour by tightening the lax abdominal muscles and removing excess, stretched-out skin.
Restores a firm, lifted, more youthful shape.
Designed to restore pre-pregnancy breast size/fullness, or give you the fullness and size that you’ve always wanted.
Recovery time will vary depending on the procedures performed. Many patients can go home the same day, but in cases of longer surgery or patients with underlying medical issues, an overnight stay may be required. Patients can generally return to work in 10-14 days. The abdomen will be quite tight for the first 1-2 weeks and the patient will generally be bent at the waist for 7-10 days. Several days after surgery, Dr. Steele will place you into a compression garment. Your breasts will be mildly sore and tight as well. After 5-7 days, Dr. Steele will recommend a specific underwire sports bra to aid in your healing.
It is important to get up and walk early to minimize the risk of blood clots. Cardio activity can be resumed at 4 weeks, with increased lifting activity (>10-15 pounds) at 6 weeks. Dr. Steele advises the patient to avoid vigorous core (planks, crunches, etc.) and chest (pushups, barbells) workouts for at least 2 months. Dr. Steele will provide optimal scar care instructions (downloadable scar care form) to give you the finest scar possible.
