This 39-year-old female was frustrated with her protruding abdomen despite a healthy diet and active lifestyle. On exam, Dr. Steele explained that she had significant muscle/fascial laxity due to a rectus diastasis (muscle separation) caused by her pregnancy. Core strengthening can improve muscle definition but, unfortunately, cannot correct a muscle separation. Dr. Steele recommended a full abdominoplasty so that the muscles could be repaired with removal of excess skin and fat. She is shown six months after surgery with an excellent result.
