Breast Revision Surgery in Fort Worth

Double-board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew H Steele can perform a breast revision surgery to effectively remove or replace old breast implants, change the size of the original implants, or correct any complications from a previous breast procedure. Breast revision surgery performed at our Fort Worth office is a great cosmetic procedure option for anyone who wants to restore a more youthful contour and appearance to their breasts and correct any other issues such as unevenness or implant shifting.

How Can Breast Revision Surgery Help?

At our Fort Worth clinic, Dr. Steele can perform a breast revision procedure to replace saline or silicone breast implants that have shifted, deflated, or ruptured. Revision surgery is also a viable option for patients who want to:

  • Change their implant or breast size
  • Treat a capsular contracture
  • Address asymmetry or ptosis (sagging)
  • Correct implant malposition, bottoming out

Who Makes a Good Candidate for Breast Revision Surgery?

Qualified candidates are in overall good health and do not smoke. If you are unhappy with the shape, size, or appearance of your breasts or breast implants, ask Dr. Steele about whether breast revision surgery is the right option for you. He can recommend alternative options or even combination surgeries to achieve your desired look.

What Happens during and after a Breast Revision Surgery?

Revisionary breast surgery is performed under general anesthesia at an accredited outpatient surgery center. Various incisions are utilized depending on the primary issue to be corrected. For patients with capsular contracture, Dr. Steele will perform a capsulectomy to remove the scar tissue and old implants and then place new implants that may be larger or smaller depending on the patient’s goals. Some women may decide that they no longer desire implants, and Dr. Steele will remove the old implants with or without a breast lift to reshape the breast. For patients whose implants have “bottomed out,” Dr. Steele will typically excise excess skin in the lower breast and place an internal mesh to help support the implants in their new position.

Breast revision surgery can take anywhere between one and four hours. Most patients can go back to regular activities within three to five days, but they will have activity restrictions for up to eight weeks. Swelling typically takes three months to completely resolve.

Are There Risks?

A breast revision surgery can repair complications from previous breast procedures, correct issues such as natural breast asymmetry, and provide patients with fuller and more youthful-looking breasts. However, as with any surgery, there are potential risks and side-effects, such as:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Fluid accumulation around the breasts (seroma)
  • Implant related complications such as malposition, encapsulation, rupture, and BIA-ALCL

During your initial consultation, Dr. Steele will outline all possible risks and side-effects.
