Body: Renuvion

Even with a healthy diet and regular exercise regimen, both men and women can be left with stubborn fat deposits and areas of loose skin due to aging, genetics, sun damage, or weight loss. Traditional procedures such as a Tummy Tuck or Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)  can be successful at reshaping and tightening the skin, however, not everyone is ready to commit to such invasive procedures or willing to have the requisite scar necessary for extensive skin removal.

Now, with Renuvion, not everyone needs these procedures for surgical-like results. Renuvion for body in Fort Worth is a ground-breaking new technology that allows for near-surgical results, with small incisions and minimal downtime.

If you are ready to learn more about how Renuvion can improve your look, request a consultation online with Dr. Steele, or call our office at 817-765-5291.  We offer surgical procedures for patients in Fort Worth, TX and surrounding communities. We also welcome patients who wish to travel from outside the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Benefits of Renuvion

Renuvion uses innovative technology to apply radiofrequency energy to excite helium gas in to an ionized plasma that allows for near instantaneous heating of the subdermal tissue to 85degrees Celsius, or 185 degrees Fahrenheit. This rapid tissue heating results in lipolysis(busting of fat cells), tightening of the underlying collagen network, and stimulation of new collagen production (neo-collagenesis). The ruptured fat is then removed with liposuction. Asa result of this combination, you are left with improved body contour with tighter skin and only a few small incisions instead of traditional longer scars. Renuvion provides effective body contouring and skin tightening for the following areas:

  • Abdomen
  • Waist and flanks (love handles)
  • Bra rolls/Back
  • Hips
  • Inner/Outer thighs and knees
  • Male breasts
  • Upper Arms
  • Neck/Jowls (Renuvion-Neck)
Renuvion Technique

Renuvion is typically combined with Liposuction for optimal contouring and is performed in the office using local anesthesia with mild sedation (Valium and Nitrous Oxide, laughing gas). Through small incisions, Dr. Steele will place tumescent solution containing salt water and lidocaine/epinephrine to the areas to be treated. The tumescent solution provides turgor (firmness) to the tissues, lidocaine provides pain relief, and the epinephrine (adrenaline) shrinks the blood vessels to minimize bleeding. Once the tissues are numb, Dr. Steele uses the Renuvion hand piece to heat the tissues to a predetermined temperature that is optimal for melting fat and tightening the tissues, while minimizing risk of skin burns. After all the areas have been treated with the j-plasma radio frequency energy, Dr. Steele will remove the excess fat using power assisted liposuction (PAL). Not every patient will require liposuction, and Renuvion can be helpful for patients with loose, excess skin in areas like the arms, especially for those patients who are unwilling to accept a long, visible scar. Dr.Steele may also suggest the additional use of the Morpheus8 radio frequency microneedling handpiece for additional skin contraction in areas with thin skin such as the neck, inner arms, inner thighs, lower abdomen, and knees. The ablative Morpheus8 or Fractora tip may also be used to help diminish the presence of stretch marks.

During/After Surgery

The length of surgery will vary depending on the number of areas to be treated. In some cases, your procedure may be staged to allow for optimal comfort and to minimize the risk of lidocaine toxicity (there is a safety limit based on your weight). Although you will notice some swelling and possibly some bruising, you will notice an improvement in your contour right away due to the fat reduction. It is very important to wear the compression garments for 6-8 weeks to encourage skin contraction and resolution of the swelling. Normal activity and sedentary work can be resumed within a few days. Cardio activity and heavy lifting should be limited for 3-4 weeks. It will take up to 3-6 months for all ofthe swelling to resolve. Additionally, with Renuvion, you will notice continued skin contraction and thickening for 6-12 months after the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Renuvion?

Renuvion is the first FDA-approved device of its kind, using radiofrequency energy induced helium plasma (j-plasma) to tighten the subdermal fibro-septal network. This minimally invasive technique tightens the skin, melts the fat, and stimulates the production of new collagen for optimal skin contour after the procedure.

Will I Have Scars After A Renuvion Procedure?

Small incisions (4-5mm) are made to allow the Renuvion handpiece and liposuction cannulas into the fatty areas to remove the fat and tighten the skin. The scars are very small and often hidden in natural creases or areas covered by undergarments and bathing suits. It is likely that nobody will notice these small scars unless they are pointed out to them.

Am I A Good Candidate For Renuvion?

If you are a healthy patient looking to remove fat and improve loose skin that can appear after weight loss, pregnancy, or aging, then Renuvion may be the right choice for you.  The ideal patient will be close to their goal body weight with realistic expectations.  While Renuvion combined with liposuction provides excellent body contouring, it is not a substitute or method for weight loss.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Renuvion is a versatile treatment option that is quite effective at treating loose skin and excess fat in a variety of locations including the abdomen, waist, bra rolls, hips, upper arms, thighs, and the face/neck (Renuvion – Neck) (hyperlink to Renuvion – Neck page).

What Is The Recovery Like; When Can I Return To Work?

Renuvion is a well-tolerated, outpatient procedure performed in Dr. Steele’s office under local anesthesia with mild sedation.   It is normal to see swelling, and possibly some bruising.  You will have some tenderness and achiness due to the inflammation that responds well to non-narcotic pain medications.  You will be placed into a surgical compression garment that is worn for 6-8 weeks.  Most patients can return to work in 2-4 days.  You should avoid cardio or strenuous exercise for about 3 weeks.

Is The Treatment Permanent? How Long Will The Results Last?

Yes, the fat cells that are removed during liposuction do not come back. If a patient gains weight, however, the remaining fat cells or fat cells in other locations will expand and become larger. Patients who maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen after surgery will maintain their results for years. Your skin tightening and collagen production are also permanent, however, age and time will result in continued skin thinning and laxity over time.

How Much Fat Can Be Removed With Liposuction And Renuvion?

This will vary depending on the size of the patient, their aesthetic goals, and the amount of fat in each location. While liposuction is not meant for weight loss or obesity, most patients will notice significant improvement in their body contour. General recommendations for safety include limiting the total fat removal to 5 liters of fat (approximately 11 pounds). Patients who are closer to their ideal body weight will get better results with decreased complications compared to overweight and obese individuals.

When Will I See My Final Results?

You will notice some improvement immediately after surgery; however, typical bruising and swelling will camouflage your final contour for several months. It is important to wear the compression garment as instructed by Dr. Steele to facilitate resolution of your swelling and skin contraction. You will gradually notice improvement as the swelling goes away, but it will take 3-6 months to see the final result.  With the addition of Renuvion to the liposuction procedure, you will also notice continued skin tightening for 6-12 months after the procedure.
